Government targets economic growth of 6.5% or above for 2021: PM

VGP – The Government targets to achieve an economic growth of at least 6.5% in 2021 and prepare fundamental factors to accelerate the growth pace from 2022 onward, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has said.

Speaking at the Government's virtual conference with localities on Tuesday, PM Phuc praised the 63 localities for having all sent presentations with 319 specific recommendations concerning many big issues of the country.

With the theme “Solidarity, discipline, innovation and development desires” having confirmed for 2021, he stressed the direction stance of continuing to renovate the development mindset, taking more drastic and effective action, overcoming difficulties, turning challenges into opportunities, making effective use of achievements of Industry 4.0 and the trend of shifting investment and trade and digital transformation in the region and the world, and remaining steadfast against difficulties and challenges.

The Government leader urged ministries and localities to pay attention to renovating national governance; building a streamlined, efficient and effective State apparatus; strengthening decentralization to ensure localities’ unified management role; and promptly addressing shortcomings.

In addition, levels and branches were asked to focus more on ensuring social security and promoting multidimensional, sustainable and inclusive poverty reduction, especially in the ethnic minority and disadvantaged areas, as well as increasing the coverage of social and health insurance and facilitating the building of facilitative and people-serving state administrative system of integrity and drastic actions. 

Regarding the celebration of the New Year and Lunar New Year (Tet) 2021, PM Phuc requested the maintenance of high caution in COVID-19 prevention and control, the stable management of the market, and the assurance of enough goods for the Tet occasion.

All ministries and localities should review all aspects to ensure the people enjoy a happy and safe Tet, especially the vulnerable and those in disadvantaged and disaster-hit areas, he insisted.
