VN’s Aviation Named Among Top 10 Largest Aviation Markets

VGP – Viet Nam has become the 10th largest aviation market in the world, registering an additional 117,000 seats between March 8-15, raising its total scheduled capacity to 1.07 million seats, according to the OAG.

Viet Nam’s aviation reported a week-on-week growth of 12% in domestic seat capacity.

Despite this impressive growth, the figure was still down 31.4% against the pre-pandemic level in January 2020, the company said.

Experts have suggested that Viet Nam test "vaccine passports" on certain groups of entrants before adopting an official policy for the holders.

With the pandemic more or less contained, air travel demand has returned to normal, with many cities and provinces, including Hai Phong, Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Quang Ninh, allowing tourism services to resume.

According to a report by the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam, only 66 million passengers passed through the country's airports in 2020, a 43.5% decrease given the impacts of the Covid-19 crisis and unfavorable weather conditions.

Twenty-two airports across Viet Nam accommodated 424,000 safe flights operated by 68 foreign and five Vietnamese carriers this year, down 548 flights from 2019.

They also handled nearly 1.3 million tons of cargoes, down 14.7 percent year-on-year.
