VN Receives First Shipment Of Over 811,000 Vaccine Doses From COVAX

VGP – The first batch of 811,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine through COVAX Facility - a partnership between CEPI, Gavi, UNICEF and WHO, arrived in Ha Noi on Thursday morning.

The vaccine was transported to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE) for storage and reservation and will be administered to people in 63 provinces and cities in April, according to the Ministry of Health.

Viet Nam is expected to receive 30 million doses from the COVAX Facility through early 2022.

In addition, the Viet Nam Vaccine Joint Stock Company (VNVC) announced that it would import 30 million doses from AstraZeneca Plc, in the first half of 2021.

The UK-based company shipped the first tranche of 117,600 doses to Viet Nam on February 24.

Regarding domestic vaccine research and development, scientists are expected to carry out the third and final phase of the Nano Covax human trials in May and complete it in the third quarter of this year.

Viet Nam began national inoculation campaign on March 8 and 49,743 frontline workers have been vaccinated against the virus to date. 

As of 6:05 am on Thursday, the Southeast Asian nation documented 2,603 COVID-19 infection cases, including 2,359 recoveries and 35 fatalities./.
