RoK enterprise launches new container shipping route to VN

VGP - The Republic of Korea (ROK)'s Incheon Port Corporation announced on May 24 that it is now operating a new container shipping route named NKT (New Korea Thailand) from the ROK to both Thailand and Viet Nam.

The new shipping route will operate three container ships with capacity between 1,500 to 1,600 TEU, run by three companies including Korea, Chun Kyung and Namsung, with one trip per week.

The NKT route will depart from Incheon port and go through Gwangyang and Busan ports in ROK, Hong Kong port in China, Shekou port in China’s Shenzhen, Laem Chabang and Bangkok ports in Thailand and lastly to Tan Cang Cat Lai port in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to Business Korea, Korean companies' exports to and investments in Viet Nam are continuing to increase. The country has been their third-largest export destination behind China and the United States since 2017.

Last year, 3,324 and 2,233 South Korean companies were doing business in Viet Nam and China, respectively. The Republic of Korea’s direct investment in Viet Nam was US$8.3 billion in 2019, 21.4% of the total foreign direct investment in the country.
