Localities urged to send more medical workers to southern pandemic hotspots

VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged leaders of 40 localities to mobilize and send more medical workforce to support Ho Chi Minh City other southern provinces in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

The requested localities are Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Bac Giang, Phu Tho,  Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Son La, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, and Lam Dong.

Leaders of the aforesaid localities have to send lists of medical workers to the Ministry of Health before 2:00 pm on August 21, the Government chief ordered.

He emphasized that this is an “urgent and important” task as the pandemic situation in several southern localities remains “very complicated”.

Since the fourth COVID-19 wave broke out in late April, northern and central cities and provinces have dispatched 13,145 medical workers to assist Ho Chi Minh City and other localities.

There have been more than 2,300 Vietnamese medical workers infected with COVID-19, including 900 in Ho Chi Minh City, according to Viet Nam National Union of Health Workers.

Viet Nam has reported a total of 312,611 infections, including 7,150 fatalities or 2.3% of the national count of infections./.
