HCMC Mayor becomes Deputy Head of Central Economic Commission

VGP – The Politburo has decided to assign Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong as Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee's Economic Commission.

New Deputy Head of Party Central Committee's Economic Commission Nguyen Thanh Phong.

Nguyen, a member of the Party Central Committee, no longer belongs to the executive board and standing board of the southern metropolis’ Party Committee, nor holds the post of Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee for the 2021-2026 term.

Nguyen, aged 59, was born in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre’s Chau Thanh District.

He served as Secretary of District 2 Party Committee in 2007 and became Vice Secretary of the Ben Tre Provincial Party Committee in 2009, and Secretary of the Ben Tre Provincial Party Committee in 2010.

In March 2015, he was assigned to hold the post as Vice Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Municipal Party Committee.

Nguyen has been as Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Municipal People’s Committee since October 2015.

The same day, the Politburo appointed Le Hai Binh, alternate member of the 13th Party Central Committee, as Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Popularization and Education.

Le Hai Binh was former Deputy head of the steering board for external information work and head of the Department of External Information and International Cooperation under the Party Central Committee's Commission for Propagation and Education.
