On September 21, the Italian Government announced its decision to offer a further 796,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses to Viet Nam via the COVAX facility. Last week, Italy gifted Viet Nam with more than 800,000 doses, raising the total doses of the COVID-19 vaccine donated by Italy to over 1.6 million.

The above figures make Viet Nam one of the top vaccine recipients from Italy.

The move came after Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a letter to Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi and the great efforts made by the Vietnamese Government’s working group on vaccine diplomacy, ministries, agencies and representative agencies in Italy.

The same day, the Hungarian Government presented Viet Nam with 100,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine and 100,000 antigen test kits to support the Southeast Asian country in its battle against COVID-19. The gifts are set to arrive in Ha Noi on September 23 morning.

On this occasion, the Hungarian government announced it will sell 400,000 doses of idle AstraZeneca vaccine for Viet Nam on a non-profit basis.

So far, Viet Nam has received about 50 million doses of different vaccines including AstraZeneca, Vero Cell, Moderna, Pfizer, and Sputnik.

As of the end of September 20, over 35 million doses of vaccines were given to people, including more than 28.28 million first shots and 6.78 million second jabs./.
