Around 70 percent of workforce at IPs, EPZs in HCMC back to work

VGP – Nearly 1,400 manufacturing plants located at 17 export processing zones (EPZs), industrial parks (IPs) and hi-tech parks in Ho Chi Minh City have resumed operation since September 30.

Pham Thanh Truc, deputy head of the management board of Ho Chi Minh City's export processing and industrial zone (HEPZA) said that 1,307 factories have re-opened, accounting for more than 92 percent while almost all 85 enterprises at high-tech parks in Thu Duc City have resumed operation, reaching 100 percent.

More than 230,000 among 320,000 workers at IPs under HEPZA and hi-tech parks have come back to work, making up 70 percent. 

During the social distancing period, 750 manufacturing plants maintained their operation in form of “three on-site” measures, meaning staff must work, eat/drink and rest on-site, with the participation of nearly 71,000 laborers, said Pham.  

The Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor announced that it has spent over VND1.39 trillion (US$60.4 million) as relief aid for 2.4 million trade union members, workers, civil servants, laborers and their children affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the city.
