Around six million people get income from growing, processing and trading in tea

Statistics show that in the first eight months of 2009, Việt Nam exported 83,000 tons of tea and earned US $107 million, up 20.4% in quantity and 11.5% in value against the last year.

Vietnamese tea is consumed in over 100 countries and the country exports nearly 150,000 tons per year.

The establishment of the tea transaction center will create a lot of chances for the Vietnamese tea sector to expand its export market.

There are tea growing localities in Việt Nam with the total area of over 131,500 ha and the capacity of 6.5 tons of fresh tea bud per ha. According to Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2010, the total yield of clean tea will reach 200,000 tons, including 100,000 tons of black tea for export (US $130 million) and 60,000 tons of green tea (US $120 million).

The Việt Nam Tea Association targets to maintain the tea-growing area of 150,000 ha in the period 2010-2015, with the average capacity of 8-9 tons of bud per ha and the average income of VND 35-40 million per ha, providing 1.5 million jobs.
