Lowest increase is seen in food and catering services

The CPI this month is 2.42% higher than in September 2008, raising the nine-month average by 7.64% against the same period last year.

According to the General Statistics Office, the CPI of 2009 will be a one-digit figure (about 7%).

The sharpest increase in September has been seen in education (4.33%), followed by transportation and post (2.37%, doubling the August figure) and housing and building materials (0.87%).

Food and catering services have most slightly increased at 0.05%, and food price continues to go down by 0.85%.

Experts attributed the high CPI increases to people’s strong consumption on the occasions of the National Day and the new school year.

In September, two biggest centers, Hà Nội and Hồ Chí Minh City, have reported high CPI increases: 1.59% in Hồ Chí Minh City (the record since the beginning of the year) and 0.77% in Hà Nội.

The gold price continues to rise by 2.04% this month, leading to the nine-month high of 28.65%.

Due to high credit growth in the first three quarters, experts warned that proper measures should be taken to prevent the recurrence of inflation.
