An ancestral temple in Hội An recognized by UNESCO
VGP – The ancestral temple of the Tăng family has been conferred by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO) an award for cultural heritage preservation in 2009, said the Hội An Preservation Center.

Mr. Tim Curtis, Program Specialist for UNESCO Culture Office in Bangkok (Thailand) highly evaluated the preservation done by Vietnamese artisans for the temple.
The total expenditure for this work is VND 537 million, 60% of which is sponsored by Hội An’s authorities. The temple, built in the 19th century, is one of the best preserved wood-made houses in the ancient town of Hoi An.
It is a typical tube-house with three lean-tos, two compartments and yin-yang roof.
This is the third UNESCO-granted award for Việt Nam’s preservation of cultural heritages. The country won the Excellence Project award in 2000 for the preservation of the ancient town. The Award of Merit was granted in 2004 for six Vietnamese traditional houses.
