Leaders commit to effective VN-Singapore Connectivity

VGP – State President Nguyễn Minh Triết and Singaporean leaders discussed measures and directions to effectively enforce the Framework Agreement on Việt Nam-Singapore Connectivity.

Meeting Singaporean President S.R. Nathan on Monday, Vietnamese State President Nguyễn Minh Triết expressed his gladness to visit Singapore.

The two leaders discussed ways to further realize the bilateral cooperation, especially in finance, banking, education, investment, IT, trade, services, and transport.

On Monday evening, President Triết separately received Singaporean PM Lee Hsien Loong, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and leaders of some economic corporations.

President Triết stated that Việt Nam always considers Singapore one of the most important partners and wants to sustain a long-standing close relationship with the ASEAN neighbor.

He assured that Singaporean investors can enjoy best conditions to do business in Việt Nam, encouraging them to deepen cooperation with Vietnamese partners.

PM Lee Hsien Loong confirmed his upcoming official visit to Việt Nam in early 2010 during which he will attend the ground-breaking ceremony of the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) in the northern city of Hải Phòng.

Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew shared with President Triết his opinions on many international issues and the bilateral cooperation, especially in education, IT, and urban planning.

Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong highly spoke of economic cooperation between the two countries, particularly through the successful VSIPs. He also agreed that the two sides should exchange information of growth and sustainable development in the post-crisis period.

Meanwhile, leaders of Singaporean businesses warmly praised Việt Nam’s advancements in administrative reforms which have helped to curtail costs for foreign investors. They pledged to expand their investment activities in Việt Nam in the near future.
