Deputy PM Trương Vĩnh Trọng hosted a reception given to Mrs. Jan Beagle, Deputy Executive Director of UNAIDS, on Tuesday evening.

Mr. Trọng stated that over the past time, Việt Nam has taken many measures to mitigate impacts of HIV/AIDS infection.

He hoped that UNAIDS and other international organizations would continue to share their experience and support Việt Nam in controlling HIV/AIDS.

Mrs. Jan Beagle briefed the host leaders about her two-day working trip to Việt Nam, during which she has surveyed some localities, personally met some groups of high infection and visited treatment facilities.

Việt Nam has been actively realizing programs on HIV/AIDS prevention and control, said Mrs. Jan Beagle, confirming that UNAIDS will always stand side by side with Việt Nam in the war against the epidemic.

By late June 2009, the number of alive HIV-infected people in Việt Nam was over 156,000; and alive AIDS patients nearly 34,400.

UNAIDS representative agency in Việt Nam and some international organizations have helped Việt Nam to successfully pilot the program on methadone-using rehabilitation in Hải Phòng and Hồ Chí Minh City. The program will be popularized throughout Việt Nam soon.
