NA Chairman Nguyễn Phú Trọng addresses the closing session

National Assembly Chairman Nguyễn Phú Trọng assessed so in his closing speech delivered in the morning of April 02 in Hanoi.

In the last term, since its first session, the 11th NA as the people’s top representative body and the supreme State power agency has significantly contributed to the country’s achievements. The NA’s performance was closely associated to people’s life, aspiration and desire.

During its last session from March 20 to April 02, 2007, the 11th NA considered, discussed and ratified the Law to amend and supplement some articles of the Law on National Assembly Organization in order to help the 12th NA renovate the organization and improve its performance.  The Law to amend and supplement Article 73 of the Labor Code was also approved, so that Vietnamese laborers will enjoy one day-off more on the 10th days of the 3rd lunar month every year on the death anniversary of Hùng Kings who were recognized as the ancestors of the Vietnamese nation. The NA also recommended the Laws on Special Reprieve and on Chemicals.

The NA interpellation in this session was highly appreciated with good questions and answers. A focus of this NA session was to consider the Government’s report on the implementation of the Laws on Anti-corruption and on Thrift Practice and Anti-prodigality.

However, NA Chairman Nguyễn Phú Trọng pointed out some unsolved issues during the last NA term. Legislative activities did not fully meet the society’s demands and the efficiency of the NA supervision remained low, he said. According to Chairman Nguyễn Phú Trọng, all these weaknesses should be seriously assessed and overcome to make the State apparatus more and more powerful.
