ABD supports rural infrastructure development

The five-year project, worth US$ 87.58 million, of which the ABD provides US$ 80 million targets to cut the number of local residents living in poverty and boost the sustainable development.

The five localities included Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, and Lam Dong.

Addressing the event, MARD Deputy Minister Hoang Van Thang said the region has strengths in developing high added-value farm produce such as coffee, rubber and pepper, but faces a number of shortcomings in investing and managing land, water resources, and irritation works.

The project will focus on upgrading irrigation works and constructing rural roads to link production areas.

Local farming households would be able to raise their income by 20% and reduce the rate of poverty in the region by 25%.  In addition, it will also enable local businesses to raise their revenue from farm produce by 30% and generate more jobs for 255,000 people./.
