The 3-year project aims at constructing and upgrading transport facilities, irrigation works, water supply systems, anti-flood works, schools, clinics and markets in the mountainous areas.
It was reported that since 1998, the ADB and the French Development Agency (AFD) have provided the country with US $150 million to conduct projects on rural infrastructure development.
Four million residents in 296 communes in 23 provinces nationwide have benefited from 641 works built under those projects.
According to the ADB’s assessment, in the beneficiary areas, the poverty rate has dropped by 25% and the per capita income has surged five times.
