ADB pledges US $1 biln loan for improving water supply

VGP – The Asian Development Bank (ADB) pledged to provide Việt Nam with a US $1 billion loan to help the country enhance its clean water supply during 2011-2020, according to the Ministry of Construction.

Of the total fund, ADB plans to grant a loan of US $250 million in 2011 for a Program on prevention of clean water loss, and provide the country with another loan worth US $1.5 million for technical assistance to the program.

The Ministry of Construction said the program, which will be carried out until 2025, is designed to improve people and local authorities’ awareness of the clean water loss, enhance capacity of clean water management bodies, and perfect regulations on water loss prevention.

The program will be mainly funded by the State budget, but the Ministry said that it will coordinate with relevant ministries and sectors to mobilize more capital from ADB, the World Bank and other organizations.
