Buôn Ma Thuột recognized as first-grade city

VGP – The PM has just decided to upgrade Buôn Ma Thuột as a first-grade city in the Central Highlands province of Đắk Lắk.

Buôn Ma Thuột is the capital city of Đắk Lắk Province and also the biggest city in the Central Highlands.

It was recognized as the best-planned city in Việt Nam. Last year, its average growth rate reached 20% and the city earned VND 1,523 billion for the budget.

With the per capita income of US $1,326 per year, the city’s poverty rate stands at around 2.3% only.

Buôn Ma Thuột meets almost all criteria for a first-grade city, such as urban functions 10.89/15 points; urban population scope 8.37/10 points; non-agricultural labor force 3.5/5 points; urban infrastructure 48.92/55 points; and urban architectural landscape 8.4/10 points.

The city plans to become a centrally-administered city by 2015.
