Coronavirus-related death toll reaches 58

VGP – Three more cancer patients infected with COVID-19 passed away on June 10 and 11, raising Coronavirus-related death toll in Viet Nam to 58, the Ministry of Health announced.

The 56th death is a 65-year-old woman from the northern province of Ninh Binh. She had cervical cancer and had gone through chemo and radiation therapies six different times.

On May 3, she was admitted to the Ha Noi-based K Hospital as her cancer developed worse. She was tested positive for coronavirus on May 16 and was transferred to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases on the same day.

Six days later, she suffered from severe breathing difficulty and had to rely on a ventilator and ECMO.

She died on June 10 of septic shock, pneumonia caused by COVID-19, fungal infection on the background of cervical cancer with metastases in abdominal lymph nodes.

The 57th death is a 59-year-old woman in northern province of Ha Nam.

She was in the last stage of gallbladder cancer and also received treatment at the K Hospital.

She was confirmed positive for COVID-19 on May 11 and was taken to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases for further treatment.

After ten days of treatment, she had to rely on a ventilator but her health conditions continued to deteriorate and she passed away on Thursday.

The latest death is a 64-year-old woman residing in Ha Noi.

She suffered from lung cancer and had undergone a surgery to remove her left lung and five times of chemotherapy.

She tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving the fifth chemotherapy at the K Hospital on May 14.

The woman passed away on June 11.

So far into the new wave that started in late April, Viet Nam has recorded 23 COVID-19 fatalities and 6,936 local infections in 39 out of its 63 cities and provinces./.
