CPI continues going down in two economic hubs

VGP – Ha Noi’s consumer price index (CPI) in April dropped 0,15% from the previous month, but went up 5.6% against the same period last year, according to the local statistics office.

Experts attributed a drop in food demand (down 0.65%) chiefly to the decline in CPI.

In the capital, prices of housing, electricity, fuel and building materials declined 0.14% against last month.

Out of the 11 baskets of commodities, seven saw price increases with the highest one of 1.17% made by the group of transport. Meanwhile, prices of telecom and education were kept stable.

In April, the price of gold declined by 2.8% and that of US dollar fell 0.05% against last month.

Meanwhile, in HCMC, CPI was down 0.33% against the same period last year.

Food and foodstuff cost shrank 2.07% and 1.07%, respectively.

The group of transport posted the highest price increase of 1.23%.

This is the second consecutive month the CPI declined in the two biggest cities - Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City./.
