Defence Minister Gen. Ngo Xuan Lich received Senator John McCain from the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services, Ha Noi, May 31, 2017

At the reception, he said the senator's understanding of Viet Nam and its people had importantly contributed to the normalisation of bilateral ties.

The two countries have seen fruitful defence cooperation, including in the exchange of delegations at all levels, personnel training, dialogue consultation, maritime security guarantee, search and rescue, bomb and mine clearance, Agent Orange/dioxin detoxification, he added

Currently, the U.S. shared experience with Viet Nam in joining the United Nations peacekeeping mission.

In turn, McCain pledged to propose the U.S. Congress and government continue assisting Viet Nam in dealing with AO/dioxin-contaminated environment, overcoming war consequences, ensuring maritime security and safety, search and rescue, and other fields of shared concern.
