Economic hubs release CPI in August

VGP – The consumer price index (CPI) in Ho Chi Minh City dipped 0.12% in comparison with the previous month while the CPI in Ha Noi rose 0.17%.

According to Ho Chi Minh City’s Statistical Office, the index over the recent eight months saw a year-on-year increase of 0.66%.

The reduction in the August CPI is attributed to the decrease in the oil and gas prices, which led to the reduction of 2.4% in transport price.

Besides, transport, the other four commodities witnessing price decrease include housing, electricity, water and fuel (down 0.66%), household commodities (down 0.01%), entertainment (down 0.06%) and other services (down 0.32%).

The other groups saw increases in prices such as education (up 1.54%), food (up 0.1%) and telecommunication (up 0.01%).

The prices of garment and health services remained the same.

In Ha Noi, eight out of 11 commodities witnessed increases in prices. The prices of education and food rose 2.9% and 0.64%, respectively.

The reduction in oil and gas prices also helped lower the price of transport by 2.19%. The price of housing, electricity, water, fuel and building material fell 0.49%.
