From March to July, Nam Định will plant 18,000 clusters of thorn bamboos and 4,000 clusters of Taiwan giant bamboo (Dendrocalamuls latiflorus) in Nam Phong Commune, Nam Giang Township and Hồng Thuận Commune.

Nam Định Province possesses a 72-km coastline and many big rivers such as the Red, Đáy, Đào and Ninh Cơ. Thus, it regularly faces devastating natural disasters.

During the project’s 2nd phase, information on disaster prevention and mitigation will be further disseminated, especially in the riparian areas.

AusAID, in collaboration with the Red Cross of Demark and Japan, have helped improve local people’s awareness of disaster prevention and environment protection.

On Wednesday, the Quảng Ngãi Provincial People’s Committee signed a memorandum of understanding with Japan’s International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on upgrading ten water reservoirs in the province.

The project aims to restore the reservoirs and provide technical assistance and management skills in an effort to ensure sufficient water supply for irrigation and local people’s safety by minimizing risks of reservoir burst.
