Foreigners visiting VN exceed five million

VGP – The number of foreign visitors to Viet Nam in the first five months of 2017 reached more than 5.2 million, a year-on-year increase of 29.6%, according to the General Statistics Office.

In May, as many as 972,800 foreigners visited Viet Nam, down 9.2% against the previous month and up 26.8% compared to the same period last year.  

The number of foreigners traveling by air hit 847,525, down 3.7% in comparison with the previous month and an increase of 31.6% against the same period last year, raising the figure to 4.3 million in five months, up 32.4%.

The visitors travelled by sea and road in the first five months of the year were recorded at 167,840 and 730,163, respectively.

Visitors from Asia numbered 3.82 million, a year-on-year surge of 34.4%, including 1.5 million from China, up 55%.

Other markets witnessing sharp increases included Russia up 52.8%, the Republic of Korea up 40%, Hong Kong up 31%, Cambodia up 30% and Spain up 29%.

The number of visitors from five nations in West Europe including United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Spain enjoying Viet Nam’s visa-exemption saw growths from 10-29%.
