The sum includes 1.6 million of the German Government’s non-refundable aid and €160,000 from Bạc Liêu Province’s budget.

The project aims to improve the mangrove ecosystem and local people’s living standards in Đông Hải and Hòa Bình Districts and Bạc Liêu Township.

During three years (2009-2011), the project will help enhance biodiversity of mangrove forests and the Bạc Liêu bird sanctuary, improve local residents’ effective use of forests and enhance capacity of relevant management bodies.

Ms. Astrid Klug said that the German Government pays due attention to environment protection and climate change.

Bạc Liêu, the coastal province in the Mekong Delta, may most suffer negative impacts of the global climate change.

The mangrove forests play an important role in protecting the coastline and dykes, and increase resilience to climate change.

The implementation of the project is crucial in protecting natural resources, environment and improving the livelihood of locals in protective areas and the buffer zone in Bạc Liêu Province.
