Representatives from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Việt Nam sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on car insurance cooperation, Bangkok, September 24, 2009

According to this MOU, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Việt Nam would provide insurance for their transit automobiles in others’ territories.

Mr. Trịnh Thanh Hoan, Director of the Insurance Management and Surveillance Department under Việt Nam’s Finance Ministry, stated that the MOU will bring the four nations’ insurance cooperation on transit automobile to a new height.

In the future, new regional cooperation agreements on insurance in particular and finance in general will be signed, he added.

The MOU will also facilitate tourism and goods transportation within the four countries, especially when 25th Southeast Asia (SEA) Games to be held in Laos in December this year is coming nearer.

According to Thailand’s statistics, some 250,000 automobiles run between Thailand and Laos each year. The figure for Thailand and Cambodia is about 300,000. Every year, 250,000 Thais visit Việt Nam, and over 100,000 Vietnamese tour Thailand.
