Golf-course planning to 2020: For development of economy, tourism, sports, services

VGP - PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng just signed the planning scheme for golf courses in Việt Nam to 2020. Accordingly, the construction of golf courses must aim at facilitating the effective and sustainable development of economy, tourism, sports and services; generating more jobs and raising the budget collection.

Golf courses are mainly located in midland and mountainous areas, the central coast and major tourist sites

Under the plan, by 2020, there will be 29 golf courses in the central region, 21 in the Southeastern region, 16 in the Red River Delta, 11 in the northern midland and mountainous region, 8 in the Central Highlands, and 4 in the Mekong Delta.

Golf course projects should use land effectively, contributing to the development of local economy, tourism, sports and services. Beside profit-seeking purposes, they should meet the community’s demand for recreation and physical culture.

A golf course will not be allowed to cover more than 5 ha of one-crop low-yield rice-growing land. The maximum area for an 18-hole golf course is 100 ha.

No golf course is allowed to be built on land for the cultivation of two rice crops a year, for industrial parks, urban quarters and forests.

Investors are not permitted to build houses and villas for sales or transfer on the land allocated for golf course projects. Investment licenses will be revoked if the projects are not implemented 12 months after the licensing.

Investors should create suitable jobs for local people, and ensure that the local environment is not adversely affected.
