Gov't agencies in talks with donors on corruption

VNGOP – The Government Inspection and the Swedish Embassy co-organized on May 18 a direct talks between Vietnam's anti-corruption agencies and international donors to discuss openly the corruption-related issues.

The talks provided international donors with general information about the organization, role, functions and obligations of every governmental agencies in the struggle against corruption. This was also a good chance for donors to raise questions about the combined performance among these agencies; the actual situation of corruption control in Vietnam; the inspection and settlement of big corruption cases; and the role of press agencies in the struggle.

Answering these questions, General Inspector Trần Văn Truyền stressed that, ODA from foreign investors are now managed and used effectively in Vietnam. He affirmed that all major corruption cases have been inspected and judged openly and transparently by laws. In the time to come, the Government Inspection will organize month press conference to publicize its performance, he revealed. The General Inspector also highly spoke of the significant role of press agencies in supporting the authorities in the struggle against corruption.

Attending and addressing the dialogue, Deputy PM Trương Vĩnh Trọng praised the assistance and support of international donors. He confirmed that the Vietnamese Government is willing to frankly talk of all common concerns of the anti-corruption work. Our mutual understanding is the most important precondition in the development cooperation in general and corruption control in particular, he added.

Deputy PM Trương Vĩnh Trọng wished the dialogue to become a useful bridge for between the Vietnamese Government and foreign donors. He suggested that the next talks should attract more donors, social organizations and non-governmental organizations.

According to the agreement between the Vietnamese Government and international donors, the second dialogue will be held in December 2007 to discuss the relationship between fighting corruption and administrative reform.
