Gov’t passes socio-economic plan for Central Highlands

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has just approved the socio-economic development plan for the Central Highlands till 2020 with an aim to achieve the annual GDP of 7.9% between 2011-2015 and 8.7% in the 2016-2020 period.

GDP per capita is expected to reach VND 24 million by 2015 and VND 46 million by 2020.

The rate of urbanization will be increased to 31.5% by 2015 and 36.2% by 2020.

Under the plan, the region would give priority to beefing up the development of agriculture-aquaculture processing industry, mineral exploitation and processing, and service sector.

Buon Ma Thuot will be developed to become the central city of the region, Da Lat city with its favorable natural conditions will be come a major tourism resort of national and international importance.

Pleiku will be a key city in the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia development triangle, according to the plan.
