Gov’t supplements over US$600 million for COVID-19 fight

VGP – The Government has decided to supplement VND14.62 trillion (US$635 million) for COVID-19 prevention and control.

In late July, the Prime Minister agreed to add over VND 1.5 trillion (US$ 75 million) from the national budget for the COVID-19 fight to the Ministry of National Defense.

Viet Nam spent VND 21.5 trillion (US$ 930 million) from its budget for pandemic prevention and control from early 2020 to late June 2021, the Ministry of Finance said on July 16.

The above figure includes VND 4.65 trillion spent in the first half of 2021, the ministry added.

Among the total, VND 8.4 trillion was for procurement of vaccines, medical supplies, financial support for quarantined people and frontline workers.

In addition, the Government has released two packages worth VND 13.1 trillion (US$ 568.6 million) in supporting people affected by the pandemic in accordance with Resolution 42/NQ-CP, dated April 9, 2020 and Resolution 154, dated October 19, 2020.

As of late September 8, Viet Nam confirmed 563,676 COVID-19 infection cases, including 325,647 recoveries and 14,135 fatalities./.
