HCMC’s export turnover on the rise

VGP – Hồ Chí Minh City’s export value is estimated to be valued at nearly US $6.25 billion in the first quarter of 2012, a year-on-year increase of 8.7% or US $497.4 million.

The city’s export and import turnover in March reached US $2.35 billion and US $2.2 billion, respectively, up 16% and 1% in comparison with the last month.

In the fist quarter of 2012, the city’s import is estimated to be worth nearly US $6.2 billion, up 7.5% against the same period last year.

Trade deficit in the period  is estimated at around US $ 58 million.

The city exported 381,500 tons of rice, earning US $196.7 million, representing a drop of 65.9% in volume and 62.4% in value. However, the average rice price increased 10.3% compared to the same period last year. 

The city also reaped US $545.8 million and US $142.6 million for exporting garments and footwear, up 8.9% and 8.6%, respectively.
