At the ASEAN-Japan Summit held in Tokyo, Japan in December 2003, CLMV leaders consented to hold the first CLMV Summit on the occasion of the 10th ASEAN Summit in Vientiane, Laos in November 2004.

The CLMV’s core mission is to foster close policy coordination and joint actions among the four countries to ensure a future of peace, stability and prosperity.

The CLMV cooperation has greatly contributed to the establishment of the ASEAN Community, the narrowing of regional development gap, and the uplifting of the welfare and quality of life of the four countries’ peoples.

The mechanism covers cooperation areas like trade-investment, agriculture, industry, energy, transport, tourism, human resources development, and agriculture.

The 10th CLMV Summit, held on December 9 under the theme “Enhancing effective connectivity for regional integration,” will review the cooperation achievements over the past years and chart future directions of the CLMV cooperation, taking into consideration the global health crisis posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and its recovery plan./.
