IPI soars over 22% year on year in Jan.

VGP – Industrial production index (IPI) in January rose 22.2%, mainly fuelled by robust manufacturing, against the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The manufacturing sector recorded the largest gain at 27.2% followed by power generation and distribution at 16.3%; water supply and waste treatment at 8.4% while mining sector declined by 6.2%.

In manufacturing sector mental production increased by 48.7%, electricity devices up 42.2% while electronics, computers and optical devices up 38%.

On the other hand, others expanded at slower paces or experienced declines including cloth production (up 9.9%) and crude oil and fuel exploitation (down 13.8%).

As of January 1, 2021, the number of workers in industrial enterprises saw a month-on-month increase of 1.1% and a year-on-year decline of 1.4% in which State sector saw a decline of 1.7% of laborers, non-State sector (down 2.5%), and FDI sector (down 0.8%)./.
