Landmark planting to be finished by end of 2008

VNGOVNet – The Government's Steering Boards on land border demarcation and landmark planting with China and Cambodia convened a meeting on April 09 in Hạ Long City (Quảng Ninh Province). The conference was presided over by Deputy PM Phạm Gia Khiêm, attracting the participation of leaders of some ministries, sectors, provincial-level People's Committees and key members of the Steering Boards in 17 provinces sharing the common borderline with the two neighbors.

Considering 2007 as the major year for border demarcation and landmark planting work, the conference focused on assessing the recent work. Many plans and measures were discussed to boost and finish the work by the end of 2008 as agreed by senior leaders of Vietnam, China and Cambodia.

Addressing the conference, Deputy PM Phạm Gia Khiêm said, "Border demarcation and landmark planting are the country's important issues in external and internal affairs, national security and defense, and socio-economic development." He emphasized that this work aims to clearly identify the actual borderline, forming a stable environment to speed up socio-economic development, enhance cross-border transactions, improve people's life in border areas and develop friendship with the neighboring countries.
