Mekong Delta harvests bumper rice crop

VGP – Farmers in the Mekong Delta were estimated to harvest 23 million tons of rice this year, which will be 1.5 million tons higher than the 2010 crop.

The output, which will be likely to account for 55 percent of the nation’s toal rice output, was attributed to the introduction of new rice varieties, which give stable yield and high quality.

Moreover, the local authorities of the Mekong Delta-Việt Nam’s biggest rice bowl have focused on upgrading a network of inner irrigation systems in the region among other technical measures.

They have also paid attentiont o expanding the high-quality rice production area, particularly for fragrant protein-rich and global GAP rice.
