Mekong Delta’s GDP expected to expand 9-10% in 2014

VGP – The Mekong Delta is striving to achieve a Gross Domestic Products (GDP) growth rate from 9-10% in 2014, said deputy head of the Southwestern Region Steering Board Nguyen Nhu Phong.

The region also sets an export turnover of US$11 billion, total budget collection of more than VND38,000 billion, total social development investment of more than VND237,000 billion, a GDP per capita of VND37 million. It is also reducing the proportion of poor household to below  6% and creating 371,000 jobs.
 
To achieve these goals, the Steering Board will prepare budget for poverty reduction, new style rural area building, environmental protection, education and training, health, culture, sports and national security and defense.
 
In 2013, the region posted a GDP growth rate of 9.06%, a GDP per capita of VND34.6 million, which was VND2.3 million higher than 2012's figure, and total social development investment of VND215,000 billion, up 11%.
 
The proportion of poor households decreased 2% compared to 2012, standing at 7.24%.
