More money for HIV/AIDS prevention

VGP – PM Nguyen Tan Dung has approved to further allocate over US$10 million for the HIV/AIDS Prevention Project in Viet Nam.

The project, funded by the World Bank, will also be extended to December 31 this year, the Government Office announced Tuesday.

The Government chief assigned the Ministry of Health and People’s Committees of relevant provinces cities to contribute corresponding capital for effective implementation of the project.

According to the Department of HIV/AIDS Prevention under the Ministry of Health, the project has been deployed in 32/63 provinces and cities with an aim to change behavior of groups most vulnerable to HIV, reduce harmful effect of HIV/AIDS, provide Methadone treatment to drug addicts.

HIV infection tends to dip in recent years in Viet Nam. However, the pandemic is still uncontrollable, particularly in Northern mountainous provinces./.
