This is part of the PM’s newly-approved program on solid waste treatment in the period of 2011-2020.

Meanwhile, 85% of solid disposals discharged from urban areas will be collected and treated by 2015 and 60% of which will be recycled and re-used. The figures will be increased to 90 and 85% by 2020, according to the program.

The program also targets to collect and treat 90% of total industrial waste and 100% of non-deleterious solid disposals from hospitals and healthcare facilities by 2020.

To fulfill these goals, the State will promulgate preferential policies on land, tax, site clearance, infrastructure, research support, labor training, and credit loans.

It is forecasted that urban solid waste would be around 22 million tons per year by 2020, or a year-on-year increase of 10%. Hence, it requires stronger determination of relevant agencies to minimize solid waste at source, enhance recycling, and innovate new technologies for less pollution and environment friendly./.
