PM Dũng: Phú Quốc international airport - a corner stone for Kiên Giang development

VGP – The Phú Quốc International Airport will make a breakthrough to socio-economic development of the island district in particular and Kiên Giang Province in general, said PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng at the groundbreaking ceremony of the airport.

This is the first international airport to be constructed with the State budget and enterprises' capital under the form of building-operation-transfer (BOT) and building-transfer (BT).

By the 2nd quarter of 2012, a terminal which can serve 3 million passengers a year will be put into operation.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng hailed the concrete efforts made by the Ministry of Transport, the investors and the contractors in surveying work, designing the project and site clearance during the past two years.

PM Dũng also ordered the relevant Ministries, sectors and Kiên Giang government to quickly finalize the master planning scheme for the island district, especially electricity, roads and water supply.

Phú Quốc International Airport is located on a 905.32 ha land plot and requires a total investment capital of VND 16,206.26 billion. The project is carried out in three phrases.

The airport can receive modern planes like Boeing 777, 747-400 and others of similar size.
