The youth work and movements have considerably contributed to the country’s socio-economic development and poverty reduction. In 2006, many youth movements were ebulliently carried out throughout the country, such as Youth Month 2006 or Rural youth emulation in improving production and business efficiency.

Most of the projects assigned by the Government were fruitfully fulfilled by the HCMCYU, especially the National Project on Computerizing for Vietnamese Youth; Project on Youth Villages; and the Expanded Project on Wind-powered Electricity Stations.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng applauded the HCMCYU for successful and effective programs and movements over the past time. He emphasized that, the year 2007 will see the HCMCYU congresses at all levels, including the 9th Nationwide Congress. So, the HCMCYU Central Committee should seriously assess its performance, point out shortcomings and weaknesses, and design specific development targets in the next five years. The Government head agreed to entrust the National Committee for Vietnamese Youth to collaborate with competent agencies in reviewing the Youth Development Program. The HCMCYU Central Committee was assigned to cooperate with some ministries and local authorities to set up policies on nurturing young talents in the time to come.
