Quang Ninh province looks to strengthen ties with three northern Lao localities

VGP – Viet Nam’s Quang Ninh province and the three northern Lao provinces of Luang Prabang, Houaphanh and Xaynhabuly held a seminar in Quang Ninh’s Ha Long city on June 3 to discuss measures to strengthen all-around cooperation between the localities.

On the basis of the traditional solidarity and friendship between Viet Nam and Laos, the four localities have been constantly implementing exchanges and experience sharing activities over the past few years.

Since 2011, Quang Ninh has sponsored VND56 billion (US$2.4 million) to build many public welfare facilities and schools in the three northern Lao provinces, while providing annual scholarships for Lao students worth over VND23 billion (US$989,000) and cooperating with Luang Prabang in sustainable tourism development.

Addressing the event, the deputy secretary of the Luang Prabang Party Committee cum chairman of the provincial People’s Council said that Luang Prabang and Quang Ninh have been fostering effective cooperation over the years, with Quang Ninh providing support for the Lao side in many spheres, including economics, culture and human resource training. He voiced his hopes for strengthened ties between the two sides in the future.

Deputy Head of the External Relations Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Nguyen Huy Tang evaluated, the cooperation between Quang Ninh and 3 provinces of Northern Laos contributed to concretizing the cooperation contents of the two Parties and the two States, working more deeply friendship, solidarity of the people

Deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Nguyen Huy Tang, stated that cooperation between Quang Ninh and the three northern Lao localities has contributed to concretizing the cooperation contents between the two Parties and States, while further deepening Viet Nam-Laos friendly relations and people-to-people solidarity.

On the occasion, the Lao delegation, authorized by the President of Laos, awarded the Labor Order to three individuals of Quang Ninh and the Friendship Medal to three collectives of the Vietnamese province in recognition of their contributions to the cause of constructing, cultivating and developing the traditional friendly ties between Viet Nam and Laos.
