Covering an area of 27,000 m2, the VND 152-billion project consists of a rice depot capable of storing 45,000 tons and a mill able to process 48-50 tons of rice per hour.

Once coming into operation in the 4th quarter, the complex will help the Corporation to buy more rice from farmers and ensure national food security.

VINAFOOD1 also plans to build two other depots in the southern provinces of An Giang and Kiên Giang, raising its total rice storage to 500,000 tons.

The Việt Nam Food Association (VFA) yesterday reported that the country has exported over 2.5 million tons of rice in the first five months, earning over US $1 billion.
