A social enterprise is an organization that applies capitalistic strategies to achieving charitable goals.

It was reported that the Center for Social Initiatives Promotion (CSIP) and its partners implemented supporting programs with the participation of 10 social entrepreneurs with 7 social enterprise projects in 2009, and 17 entrepreneurs with 12 projects in 2010. The projects have involved in environmental protection, the disabled, HIV/AIDS, public health, creation of jobs for ethnic people…

Mr. Nguyễn Hoa Cương, Vice Director of the Business Development Department under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, said such models as KOTO International, Sao Mai Center and the Bảo Lâm Fertilizer Company, which have made impressive contributions to society, should be multiplied nationwide.

KOTO International specializes in selecting and training street children on restaurant and hotel services. Sao Mai provides counseling services regarding early diagnosis, intervention and care for mentally ill and autistic children. Bảo Lâm collects rubbish to produce micro-organism fertilizers, helping reduce environmental pollution and create jobs for local residents.
