The figure was released at a conference to review its performance in the period on April 15 in Ha Noi with the attendance of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

During the reviewed time, the VBSP has provided loans to over 21.4 million poor households and policy beneficiaries, and financially assisted over three million disadvantaged students to continue their studies.

It has also supplied capital for the building of over 4.2 million water works and sanitation facilities in rural areas, more than 88,000 houses for flood-stricken households in the Mekong Delta, and nearly 484,000 houses for poor households and policy benefiting families. The bank has also helped over 98,000 workers from policy benefiting families to work overseas.

Through a management and operation model with regard to the country’s situation and political structure, the bank has established a close link with Party committees, authorities and socio-political organizations at all levels, thus benefiting a wider range of borrowers.

In its development scheme for the 2011-2020 period, which was approved by the Prime Minister, the bank aims for securing a sustainable growth and developing new, highly efficient services and products for poor households and policy beneficiaries.

To realize the strategy, the bank is striving to supply its available services and products to all targeted customers, simplify procedures and working process, and diversify its services and products.

It will look to integrate effectively its credit policies with those on industry, agriculture and fishery, as well as with the operation of socio-political organizations in order to ensure social welfare and a rapid and sustainable poverty reduction./.
