State President Nguyễn Minh Triết in Beijing

VNGOP – A red-carpet welcoming ceremony was hosted on May 17 in Beijing by Chinese President Hu Jintao and his spouse to State President Nguyễn Minh Triết, his wife and entourage.

During their talks following the ceremony, President Nguyễn Minh Triết and his Chinese counterpart informed each other situations in each country. They agreed to exchange frequently high-level visits. They shared the view that the two countries should bring into full play the role of the Joint Committee in directing bilateral cooperation as well as expand mechanisms of cooperation among industries and branches. According to the leaders, efforts should also be made to broaden practical ties in economy, trade, science-technology, culture, education and sustainable use of water resources from the Red and Mekong Rivers. They also vowed to early realize the agreement on broadening and deepening bilateral economic and trade cooperation in a healthy way, as well as implement the project "Two corridors, one economic belt" focusing on transport infrastructure.

The two State leaders suggested that the two sides should promote the land border marker planting in 2007 and finish this work in 2008. They pledged to speed up the demarcation of territorial waters surrounding the Gulf of Tonkin and maintain peace and stability in the East Sea. The two leaders highly spoke of the close collaboration of relevant agencies of the two countries in multilateral cooperation fields. They vowed to give better mutual cooperation and support to fruitfully take part in regional, interregional and international economic regimes.

After the talks, President Nguyễn Minh Triết and his Chinese counterpart witnessed the signing ceremony of six documents regarding Vietnam-China cooperation: Diplomatic note on designing the five-year plan for economic and trade cooperation; Diplomatic note on training Vietnamese cadres and experts in economic forecast and railway techniques; Memorandum of Understanding on founding the economic working teams; Agreement on the use of buyer credits; Plan 2007-2009 on realizing the Agreement on Cultural Cooperation; and the Agreement on sharing large Chinese railway containers.

Previously, in the morning of May 17, State President Nguyễn Minh Triết had a meeting with Chinese National Assembly Chairman Wu Pangguo, during which the President confirmed that Vietnam attached importance to learning experience of the Chinese NA in law making, supervisory work, policies on ethnic, religious affairs and poverty alleviation, and other social issues.

In the morning of the same day, President Nguyễn Minh Triết paid a visit to the Beijing Economic and Technical Development Zone and the Olympic Games 2008 Stadium Complex. The President asserted that China's policies on site clearance, infrastructure construction and investment attraction are good examples for Vietnam to follow. He expressed his hope that China will transfer technologies and experience in building these large-scale projects to Vietnam.
