UN hails VN’s role at multi-lateral forums

VGP - United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres hailed the active role of Viet Nam at multi-lateral forums and the nation’s strong commitments to realizing sustainable development goals (SDGs), responding to climate change, protecting the environment, and enhancing the participation in UN peace-keeping missions.

The UN Secretary General made that statement at his reception on June 12 for Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, Head of Viet Nam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations who came to bid farewell as she finished her working term there.

He highly appraised PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s discussions with him on the sidelines of the G7 Outreach Summit in Canada and the two sides’ agreements on crucial issues, including the necessity to obey international laws and strengthen multi-lateral cooperation. 

He expected that Viet Nam will uphold its role to make crucial contributions to international and regional peace and development.    

Mr. Antonio Guterres expressed delights at the development between Viet Nam and the UN, supposing that the Green One UN House model in Ha Noi is a symbol of success, and a good experience for reforming the UN’s activities.

Ms. Nga expressed thanks to the Secretary General and the UN’s agencies for their cooperation and effective support in recent time, stressing that the UN plays an important role in maintaining peace and stability and promoting cooperation and development in the world.

She highlighted Viet Nam’s strong commitment to implementing the UN agenda, SDGs and coping with climate change, as well as to participating in peacekeeping operations and supporting efforts of the Secretary General to improve the efficiency and transparency of the UN.
