Under the program, Đa Nhim and Đại Ninh hydroelectric plants have had credit to pay around US $680,000 as the first quarterly contribution to the Forest Protection and Development Fund of Lâm Đồng.

It is reported that the money will be spent on forest preservation. Accordingly, the households living near forests will be financed to engage in sustainable cultivation of crops, join anti-deforestation forces and protect watershed forests in the Đồng Nai River valley.

After the pilot timeframe, a full protocol on PFES will be designed in order to develop local economy, encourage the private and public partnership in economic activities which are friendly with bio-diversity, and raise fund for environment protection.

Once being approved, the protocol will be popularized in Southeast Asia.

So far, similar projects are being conducted in Cambodia and Laos.
