The nation is placing 16,799 people who had been in contact with Covid-19 patients or returned home from the pandemic-stricken areas under medical surveillance and concentrated quarantine. Of these, 159 are kept at hospitals, 15,797 at concentrated quarantine sites and 843 at places of residence.

As the pandemic remains complicated around the world, the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control underlined the need to strengthen border control and strictly fine those illegally enter Viet Nam.

The National Steering Committee also urged research institutes to promptly coordinate with foreign partners to clarify whether the UK’s new Covid-19 variant has entered Viet Nam.

The new variant has prompted many European and Asian countries to cancel flights from the UK as it is thought to spread about 50% to 70% faster that other forms of the virus./.
