The 35-year-old woman, who was working at Tan Chau Region General Hospital, got the vaccine jab on Thursday, said Tu Quoc Thuan, Director of the An Giang Provincial Department of Health.

After the injection, she went into shock and was treated by the hospital in accordance with the protocol and with support from experts and doctors of the An Giang Provincial General Hospital and Ho Chi Minh City-based Cho Ray Hospital via online consultation.

She was then taken to the An Giang Provincial General Hospital and the Ministry of Health asked the Cho Ray Hospital to send intensive care specialists for emergency assistance, but she did not survive.

Anaphylaxis is a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction that occurs rarely after vaccination, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Viet Nam began the national COVID-19 vaccination program on March 8 and more than 747,800 people have been vaccinated to date.
