Viet Nam, Russia seek measures to boost cooperation

VNGOP- The two co-chairmen of the Viet Nam-Russia intergovernmental committee for economic, commercial, scientific and technical cooperation met in Moscow, Russia, from June 18-20.

Chairman of the Vietnamese sub-committee, Minister of Industry Hoàng Trung Hải and Chairman of the Russian sub-committee, Minister of Industry and Energy Viktor Khristenko reviewed the minutes of the 11th session of the Viet Nam-Russia intergovernmental committee and discussed measures to further promote the two countries' economic, commercial and investment cooperation, especially in the areas of oil and gas, energy and mining.

Minister Hải, in his capacity as a special envoy of Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng, also met with Sergey Naryshkin, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Russian Government Office.

Minister Hải told the Russian Deputy Prime Minister that the Vietnamese government is in agreement with Russia's draft list of tasks to speed up development of the Viet Nam-Russia strategic relationship in 2007 that was initiated by President Vladimir Putin.

Minister Hải also exchanged views with the Russian Deputy PM on preparations for PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng's official visit to Russia slated for the second half of this year.

Deputy PM Naryshkin also said that the Russian government would encourage Russian businesses to invest in Viet Nam and become more active in major Vietnamese projects.
